How to convert VA to Amps

Single phase VA to amps calculation formula

I(A) = S(VA) / V(V)

The current I in amps (A) is equal to the apparent power S in volt-amps (VA), divided by the voltage V in volts (V).

So,

A = VA / V
amp = volt-amp / volt

For example:

Power (S) = 4500VA
Voltage (V) = 110V

Current (I) = 4500VA / 110V = 40,91A

Three phase VA to amps calculation formula

I(A) = S(VA) / (√3 × VL-L(V))

The current I in amps (A) is equal to the apparent power S in volt-amps (VA), divided by the square root of 3, multiplied by the line to line voltage VVL-L in volts (V).

So,

A = VA / (√3 × V)
amp = volt-amp / (√3 × volt)

For example:

Power (S) = 4500VA
Voltage (V) = 110V

Current (I) = 4500VA / (√3 × 110V) = 23,62A
