How to Use the Checkbook Calculator

Enter an Operation:
- Choose the desired operation from the “Operation” dropdown menu:
- Auto: Automatically adds the entered amount to the total.
- Auto Decimal: Automatically adds the entered amount with decimal precision.
- + (Add): Adds the entered amount to the total.
- − (Subtract): Subtracts the entered amount from the total.
- × (Multiply): Multiplies the total by the entered amount.
- ÷ (Divide): Divides the total by the entered amount.
- Choose the desired operation from the “Operation” dropdown menu:

Enter the Value:
- Input the amount you wish to add, subtract, multiply, or divide from the total in the “Entry” field.

Calculate:
- Click the “Calculate” button to perform the operation. The result will update the total displayed at the top of the calculator.

Reset:
- To start over, click the “Reset” button. This will clear the total and the entry field, allowing you to begin a new calculation.
Example
Imagine you want to balance your checkbook by adding a deposit and subtracting a withdrawal:
- Step 1: Choose + (Add) from the operation dropdown.
- Step 2: Enter $500 in the “Entry” field.
- Step 3: Click Calculate. The total should now show $500.00.
- Step 4: Now choose − (Subtract) from the operation dropdown.
- Step 5: Enter $100 in the “Entry” field.
- Step 6: Click Calculate. The total should now show $400.00.
Formulas
The calculator uses basic arithmetic operations to update the total:
- Addition: Total = Total + Operand
- Subtraction: Total = Total – Operand
- Multiplication: Total = Total * Operand
- Division: Total = Total ÷ Operand
